Marie-Dolma Chophel's work maps abstract, fragmented spaces and explores the tension between chaos and control, the expression of natural forces and the weight of their emotional impact. She creates immersive visual experiences that convey a sense of movement and impermanence. Cosmology, natural sciences, the effects of technology on our condition as well as her Tibetan heritage are powerful inspirations in her work.

For the past seven years, Chophel has taken an increasing interest in how technology impacts our perception of the world and our place in it. Today we know a world which is entirely digitally captured and mapped out. Technologies allow us immediate access to vast multitudes of information, images and ways to connect with others. Its effects etch new cartographic features onto our experiences, creating worlds on top of worlds where we never really know who we are, where we are located, or where we are going. Chophel started to integrate graphic elements, geometric shapes and 3D grids into her painting process to create abstracted spaces where organized constellations of lines or topographic meshes interact with fluid organic forms and colors, undergoing mutations. As the layers of paint and lines create - or destroy - worlds, painting becomes a dedication of time to space.

With each of her works, Chophel engages new narratives of the mind's ever-evolving inner geography where she can impede the flow of time, which seems otherwise accelerated and compressed.

Marie-Dolma Chophel graduated of her Master's Degree in Art from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris (ENSBA), France.
